THE FOURTH WORLD SMILE DAY HELD ON LARGE SCALE
NEVER BEFORE HAS A SMILE BEEN AS NEEDED
On Friday 4 October 2002, the fourth World Smile Day was held in Worcester City, Massachusetts, USA. The event was held two years after the death of Harvey Ball, the designer and creator of SMILEY FACE, and sees the movement taking off in America. SMILEY FACE is the joint heritage of all people of the world, and is becoming the most famous symbol in history.

Plenty of grins kept schoolchildren and adults amused yesterday as they squeezed together to form a human Smilay Face for World Smile Day. Dressed in yellow for the face or black for the eyes and mouth, the crowd formed a large smiling face on the plaza behind City Hall as photographers, TV cameras and an airplane flying overhead snapped pictures of the happy symbol made famous by Worcester's own Harvey Ball.
